Lesson 8: Animating the Explosion

Now that the planes are set on their fatal trajectory, you can turn your attention to creating the explosive effect. You will use the Fire2.gif image to cause an explosion in Frame 29 in the Pow Layer, when the planes collide.

1. Select frame 29 in the Pow Layer and select the Fire2.gif file in the Library list. Drag it from the window onto the stage and position it on top of the planes to cover the area where they touch.

2. Use the Arrow tool Scale modifier to shrink the size of the explosion so that most of the planes are still showing.

3. Select the 45th frame and use the Arrow tool to move the explosion to cover the planes. Use the Scale modifier to enlarge the explosion so that the planes are completely covered. The explosion should be large at this point.

4. Select the 29th frame of the Pow layer and with the Frame Panel showing, select Motion from the Tweening list box. An arrow will form between the 29th and the 45th frames.

5. Test the movie. Select Control >Play or select Control >Test Movie. The Test Movie option creates the SWF (Flash Player) file, which you can use on the Web.

Lesson 9: Adding Sound Effects

You are now ready to create the sound effects that accompany the explosion. You will add the sound file to the Sound layer, which you have already set up.

1. Select the 20th frame in the Sound layer. Select Window >Panels >Sound or click on the Sound tab of the Frame Panel if it is already open.

2. Select the space.wav sound file in the Sound list box. Select Start from the Sync list box. This will cause the sound to start playing at this point. You don’t want the sound to begin until the planes collide.

3. Test the movie using Control >Test Movie. This will create the Flash Player file as well as the HTML code you need to add to the Web page to launch the movie. The completed movie is available on the CD as crash.fla and crash.swf.
